In the Intensive Program, Susan and Sarah have integrated the latest discoveries in brain science, trauma treatment, and Nonviolent Communication (NVC) to create a uniquely effective program that literally rewires our brain and restores our birthright of well-being.
The Intensive Program is delivered in three weeklong retreats that are each designed as a complete, stand-alone experience.
You may enroll in one, two, or three Retreat Weeks, and participate in them in any order.
- Understanding Reactivity, Creating Emotional Stability and Taming the Critical Self (October 10-17, 2016)
- Creating Sustainable Relationship Patterns and Creating Life Enhancing Core Beliefs (January 20-27, 2017)
- Resolving Early Childhood Trauma, Entangled Nervous Systems, Addiction, Unlocking Self-Sabotage (May 19-26, 2017)
INTENSIVE PROGRAM CONTENT:
Every New Depths Intensive Program Retreat Week includes a combination of experiential process work, conceptual learning, breathing and guided visualizations, as well as small group work:
Process and Experiential Learning
- Individual experiential process work that creates stable, positive change
- Learning the New Depths’ transformational process that integrates old traumatic memory and reconnects disconnected inner parts
- Integrating these unprocessed traumatic memories and trauma-based symptoms in order to create a compassionate, empowered and heart-connected relationship with your painful past
- Learning how to shift negative beliefs and assumptions about yourself towards a positive, life-affirming sense of self
Cognitive and Relational Learning
- Understanding the brain and the role of memory in the healing process
- Methods for repairing our brains and handling emotional triggers and reactivity
- How to calm your emotional alarm system
- How to develop and sustain emotional equilibrium and self-regulation
- How to use deep process work to repair and create the brain circuits that support warmth and intimacy
- Developing sustainable, life-supporting strategies to nourish and support you going forward
Each retreat week will also focus on selected special topics:
Week One: Brain Basics – Understanding Reactivity, Creating Emotional Stability and Taming the Critical Self (Oct 10-17, 2016)
The “Brain Map” of Human Well-Being:
- The nine characteristics of a healthy brain
- Understanding your brain: the rider and the elephant
- How to create new neural pathways that restore integration and function to your brain
- How to assess your own current and developing level of brain integration
The Limbic Alarm System and The Impact of Unmet Childhood Needs and Trauma:
- The role and function of your limbic (emotional) alarm system
- How persistently unmet life-needs created by poor parenting practices (lack of attunement, neglect, toxicity and abuse) damage our brains neurologically, biochemically and physically
- How brain damage caused by unmet childhood needs and trauma creates lasting negative effects, including:
- ongoing or recurring stress and anxiety, hyper-vigilance, anger, emotional reactivity and unsatisfying or dysfunctional relationships
- a distorted sense of self that includes persistent critical inner voices, self-blame, and a pervasive sense of unworthiness and inadequacy
Week Two: Creating Sustainable Relationship Patterns and Creating Life Enhancing Core Beliefs (January 20-27, 2017)
Deepening Our Capacity For Emotional Connection and Intimacy:
- Learn how the four relationship survival patterns (“attachment styles”) have impacted you and your relationships
- Explore the neurobiology of intimacy
- Discover why relationships fail and how to create repair
- Learn how to interrupt dysfunctional patterns and restore our natural capacity for satisfying, life-giving relationships
- Identify painful core beliefs and learn how to shift them
- Take steps to integrate and heal our attachment patterns
Week Three: Resolving Early Childhood Trauma, Entangled Nervous Systems, Addiction, Unlocking Self-Sabotage (May 19-26, 2017)
Understanding Trauma – Causes and Effects:
- Understand how trauma interrupts normal memory integration and how this can create lifelong dysfunctional patterns unless resolved.
- Identify and resolve your own traumatic experiences
- Understand how to create new neural networks in your brain that support thriving
Entangled Nervous Systems:
- Disentangling ancient familial patterns that limit our life energy
- Finding new freedom to exist within relationship
Understanding and Addressing Addictive Behaviors:
- Learn how brain damage from early childhood trauma creates addictive behaviors (food disorders, workaholism, substance abuse, compulsive shopping and gambling, etc.)
- Learn how to use empathy and compassion to create a sense of meaning and self-value that heals addictive patterns
Unlocking Self-Sabotage:
- Understand the roots of self-sabotage patterns
